VDC-1.0 (Stable)

VDC writes: "The Virtual Data Center (VDC) is an OSS digital library system "in a box" for numeric data. VDC provides a complete open-source, digital library system for the management, dissemination, exchange, and citation of virtual collections of quantitative data. The VDC functionality provides everything necessary to maintain and disseminate an individual collection of research studies: including facilities for the storage, archiving, cataloging, translation, and dissemination of each collection. On-line analysis is provided, powered by the R Statistical environment. The system provides extensive support for distributed and federated collections including: location-independent naming of objects, distributed authentication and access control, federated metadata harvesting, remote repository caching, and distributed virtual collections of remote objects. Release 1.0 of the VDC provides RPM's for Redhat 9.0, Fedora 1 Core and Redhat 3 Advance Server. Supported standards and protocols and formats include: DDI, Dublin Core, and MARC for metadata; R,SPSS, SAS,ASCII, and STATA for data ; OAI and Z39.50 for queries; UNF's and Handles for naming/citation."

JOPAC2-1.0

Romano writes: "JOpac2 is a open source project we started in 2002. The idea came out because we need a OPAC able to integrate different data sources without data transformation. For this, JOpac2 is written in Java and is build on a class structure that make easy to load data in any ISO2709 format (ISIS, UNIMARC and text-only if you map it on a ISO2709 structure). JOpac2 is currently used by the University of Trieste for two small catalogs: non SBN data from a old ISIS based system and a journal catalog. Now at v.1.0, we are working for a new release and a loan module."

Much of the development work during that time has been devoted to refining and improving basic features. New features in Beta 3 include a powerful and flexible boolean search capability, a redesigned user interface that is clean simple and easy to learn and use, a context sensitive help system, and standalone Java clients. Beta 3 is coming close in terms of features to the basic OPAC and cataloging system that the production 1.0 release is expected to be."

yaz++-0.8, YAZ Proxy-0.8

from fm, changes include: "SRW/SRU support. Bugfixes for event handling. C++ compile fixes (for more picky GCC). The YAZ proxy is now a separate project and is no longer part of YAZ++ ... The proxy supports SRW/SRU/Z39.50 incoming connections and any Z39.50 backend server, CQL conversions, XML, and XSLT."
