RefDB has changed a lot since the last mention of it here. From the latest release news on fm:

"The PHP Web interface supports live links for keywords, authors, and periodicals which are displayed as "tag clouds". Automatic format detection from local files is done, and has a type-sensitive form for editing data. RefDB implements all SRU operations (explain, searchRetrieve, scan) with MODS output, and conforms to CQL Level 2. Namespaced XML output allows processing of schema-based TEI P5 and DocBook V.5.0 documents. Raw bibliographies were added. Searching for and styling of less-common fields was improved."

The source, perl client, and sru support code are attached.

It's been a really long time since I've written about g3data, the excellent tool for extracting data from graphs. It has seen many updates, and the latest version is 1.5.1.

Josh writes: "The Evergreen software development team has spent the past couple of days attending the PINES Annual Membership meeting and demonstrating the progress we�ve made so far with Evergreen. We are now ready to release the circulation demo to everyone, and installation instructions for accessing the software."

Kyle writes: "The Georgia Public Library service is ahead of schedule on development of the Evergreen ILS and in January released pre-alpha source code that can be downloaded from their cvs site. They have also set up a public demo site. For further information, read the Evergreen blog."

Kevin writes: "A new version of YAZ has been released. YAZ is a C/C++ programmer's toolkit supporting the development of Z39.50v3 clients and servers. A sample client, a sample server, and documentation are included in the distribution. YAZ also includes experimental support for the industry standard ZOOM API for Z39.50. There are several changes from the last version (mostly bug fixes)."

Kevin writes: "There is a new release of the YAZ toolkit . YAZ is a C/C++ programmer's toolkit supporting the development of Z39.50v3 clients and servers. In the release, there is a new ZOOM function, ZOOM_connection_last_event, that returns type of last event (such as "receive data", "send data", "apdu received", etc.) and two new YAZ client commands: . (dot, which sources a script of YAZ client commands), and ! (to execute shell command)."

In the new release, there is a new client-side MARC decode/display function which properly rejects non-ISO2709 records. There are also some ZOOM API changes."

Sebastian Hammer writes: "There is a new release of the YAZ toolkit available (in addition to maintenance releases of ZAP and Zebra). The most important change is that we include support for an early version of the ZOOM API. ZOOM is an exciting new development in Z39.50, which suggests a common, high-level interface which can be implemented across many toolkits, and in most programming languages. It promises to make life a lot easier for developers of Z39.50 clients."

from freshmeat, changes include: "Password encryption, clients can ask for passwords interactively, simplified user management, and changes to the client-server dialog protocol (old clients won't work with the new application server and vice versa).
