MARC module for Drupal 5
Submitted by dchud on Sun, 2008-01-06 23:57. MARC | OPAC | PHPAs seen on drupal.org: "This module provides a way to map data in the MARC record to Drupal content types and import sets of MARC records. The module currently supports mapping to the default node fields, taxonomy fields and CCK text fields... By importing a library's MARC records directly in to Drupal as nodes, you can easily recreate your library's catalog in a rich social environment."
Very cool to see something like this pop up into another popular CMS (Scriblio being the prior example).
A copy of the latest release is attached.
RefDB-0.9.9
Submitted by dchud on Thu, 2007-11-08 13:20. Bibliography | BibTex | C | MARC | MODS | Perl | PHP | Ruby | SRURefDB has changed a lot since the last mention of it here. From the latest release news on fm:
"The PHP Web interface supports live links for keywords, authors, and periodicals which are displayed as "tag clouds". Automatic format detection from local files is done, and has a type-sensitive form for editing data. RefDB implements all SRU operations (explain, searchRetrieve, scan) with MODS output, and conforms to CQL Level 2. Namespaced XML output allows processing of schema-based TEI P5 and DocBook V.5.0 documents. Raw bibliographies were added. Searching for and styling of less-common fields was improved."
The source, perl client, and sru support code are attached.

Submitted by dchud on Sun, 2007-09-30 15:06. MARC | OPAC | PHPScriblio is a WordPress-based OPAC and CMS, which merges the concepts of "blog entry" and "catalog record". You can see it in action live at Plymouth State University, the project's host institution.
Read about how to get it here, with some detailed notes about installation here.
Copies of the scriblio-specific (i.e. not-WordPress) components are attached.
VuFind-0.6.1
Submitted by dchud on Sun, 2007-09-30 13:10. OPAC | PHPEarlier this summer, Andrew Nagy from Villanova University announced VuFind, a php-based OPAC written around Apache Solr:
"VuFind is a library resource portal designed and developed for libraries by libraries. The goal of VuFind is to enable your users to search and browse through all of your library's resources by replacing the traditional OPAC to include:
- Catalog Records
- Locally Cached Journals
- Digital Library Items
- Institutional Repository
- Institutional Bibliography
- Other Library Collections and Resources
VuFind is completely modular so you can implement just the basic system, or all of the components. And since it's open source, you can modify the modules to best fit your need or you can add new modules to extend your resource offerings."
The most recent release is 0.6.1, a copy of which is attached.
SOPAC-1.0
Submitted by dchud on Wed, 2007-01-24 13:30. OPAC | PHP | Readers' AdvisoryAs seen at blyberg.net, John Blyberg wrote: "I finally got permission to go ahead with implementing what I’ve dubbed “The SOPAC” here at AADL. That would be “cute-speak” for Social OPAC. The SOPAC represents a slew of features that I’ve wanted to implement for quite some time now. I’m rather excited to see if library users will respond to these tools in an OPAC setting as much as Web 2.0 users have to commercial social networking sites. I’m fairly confident they will. ...So what is the SOPAC? It’s basically a set of social networking tools integrated into the AADL catalog. It gives users the ability to rate, review, comment-on, and tag items."
SOPAC presents as a set of drupal modules and ships under the GPLv2. Links for the files, along with other interesting packages John has released over the years, are available here.
Congrats to John on this milestone release!

Submitted by msteffens on Thu, 2006-10-26 05:19. Bibliography | MODS | OpenURL | PHP | SRUrefbase-0.9.0 adds support for unAPI, COinS, and a SRU/W web-service:
refbase is a web-based bibliographic manager for scientific literature, references and citations. A new release of the refbase package is available from SourceForge.
This release offers major function enhancements and bugfixes. Batch import from various bibliographic formats (including BibTeX, Endnote, RIS, ISI and MODS XML) is now supported, as is import from a PubMed ID. An OpenDocument Spreadsheet for use with OpenOffice.org can be exported and formatted citation lists can be generated as HTML, RTF, PDF, or LaTeX. A SRU/W service as well as support for unAPI, OpenURL and COinS metadata have been added. These allow the data to be used by the next generation of bibliographic clients. A new command line client is also included.
See Feature Highlights for an overview of the main features of this package.
Please see the README file for an overview of refbase, what has changed in this release, and how to install or update refbase. The README is available in the package and online.
For more information about the refbase project and pointers to working examples of refbase (including freely accessible demo databases) please visit the refbase home page.
